The Garden Studio

Garden Studio

Designed as a home office for form:form architects prior to the demand for home working our ‘Studio in the Fields’ came into it’s own during the months of the Lockdown in 2020.

The self-created brief was to provide a flexible highly insulated structure which also allowed the clients to self-build as much as possible and be completed for less than £35K.

Sitting on a similar footprint as a derelict barn within the garden the simple mono-pitch angled form contains the studio, a meeting space, supported with a compact toilet/shower room, store cupboard and drinks alcove.

Black corrugated metal cladding although appropriate for the countryside setting was chosen just as much out of necessity as it would be fitted by the client. A similar approach was taken for the interior with plywood sheet lining throughout. The floor is a vibrant lime green acoustic cushioned vinyl sheet that echoes form:form architects practice branding.

Initially designed as a bespoke one-off space we have started to develop the idea with our SIP’s supplier to possibly market it as a garden office kit.

We wanted to design and build an exciting but affordable structure that showcased our architectural ideals of forming form that is modest but creative.
