Steve Hayward is the founding director of form:form Architects, and a RIBA Award winning Chartered Architect with over 24 years of qualified experience. Steve has been a RIBA Awards Jury member, Civic Trust Awards Assessor, visiting Critic at the Birmingham School of Architecture, ‘Ask the Expert’ at both the Homebuilding & Renovating Show and Grand Design Live events.

Steve has a proven track record of converting exciting, thoughtful, and creative design solutions into successful award-winning useable spaces. Steve has held key positions in nationally and internationally respected practices with experience in a variety of sectors from healthcare, commercial developments, high quality residential works, retail and leisure outlets, education, restaurants and bars, the arts and community projects.

Steve studied at the Birmingham School of Architecture, and following his diploma (with commendation), was Project Architect for Richard Johnson & Associates and successfully completed a luxury ‘city living’ residential development, and Chinese supermarket in Birmingham. In 2000 Steve joined the Birmingham office of Mason Richards Partnerships (now RPS Design Ltd.) as project design Architect and was responsible for the multi-award-winning Wolverton Park, The Burns and Education Centre at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, the Diagnostic & Treatment Centre (Royal Orthopaedic Hospital), and Riley Court one of the country’s first ‘low-energy’ office building. Following promotion to Senior Associate Steve moved to AHR (formally Aedas Architects) in 2006 as an Associate, and as one of the principal design architects for this top 5 global practice allowed Steve the opportunity to experience an exciting and diverse range of building types, cultures and working methods. Working on high-profile projects in Bahrain, Kazakhstan, UAE, Pakistan, Albania and Vietnam Steve had key responsibility in client liaison, design concept, feasibility studies, sketch designs, development & production of finalised designs, and ensuring design continuity and control once on site. Steve’s role was both leader and mentor to project teams of architects, assistants, and technicians, leading from the front and being able to demonstrate a knowledge and experience in cutting edge design, client management, and business development. Promoted to Associate Director Steve delivered some key landmark projects during his eight years including securing planning for Regal Tower, Birmingham’s tallest building, Stockport and Ludlow community hospitals, and a specialist Women & Children’s unit in Telford, a new 1600 pupil City of Leicester College and 55 Colmore Row a remodelled and extended office development in the centre of Birmingham.

In 2014 Steve founded form:form Architects, a design studio to provide inspirational architecture for commercial and private clients throughout the UK. Steve actively participates in every project, integrating both a creative and sustainable sensitive approach.

Tom has over 20 years experience working with award winning practices throughout the UK, delivering a range of projects both nationally and overseas. Tom has experience in a number of sectors including residential, retail and healthcare. Tom also offers extensive experience working with Listed Buildings and Conservation Projects in both England and Wales. 

Having started his career as an Architectural Technologist, Tom brings his understanding of the technical built environment into his design and delivery approach.

Tom also has experience delivering projects within the BIM environment, both from a production perspective as well as a project lead. Co-ordination of project stakeholders, consultants and information through both project management and software skills enabling Tom to lead teams efficiently and deliver projects successfully.

Tom joined form:form architects in 2024 as a Director and is looking to enhance the Practice’s growing portfolio of Conservation works and expand project delivery capability whilst ensuring the practice retains a focus on design quality and effective delivery.
