The Boat House

The Boat House

Our sensitive and modest proposal for a new replacement structure which sits directly on the footprint of a redundant and derelict single storey boat house on the banks of the Severn River in Shrewsbury.

A slightly lower floor level to the ground floor is intended to be robust enough to allow for regular flood impact, a new additional upper ‘dry’ first floor to accommodate support facilities such as changing, lockers, toilets, storage and plant is enclosed with a form which is intended to reduce the perception of a larger structure as well as reflect the dynamic nature and movement associated with rowing. The articulation of the massing, the fenestration pattern and expressed triangular structure reflects the shapes, lines and forms familiar in the activity of rowing and its interaction with boat and water.

The proposed materials are a combination of brickwork, and weathered steel metal cladding which complements the current local colour palette.
