Yew Tree Barn is located in a much sought after location in rural Shropshire. The goal of the project was to preserve and breathe new life into this curtilage Grade II listed barn through conversion to a 4 bedroom family home. The restoration includes the use of natural wood fibre insulation and traditional lime plaster to allow for breathability and retain the historic characteristics of the building. Original oak trusses are visible in a double height living space that with additional light brought in through conservation style rooflights and new timber sash windows.
Towards the rear of the barn a contemporary extension reflects the previously demolished livestock barn with its use of metal cladding and lower ridge height. A design response that achieves modern open-plan living whilst remaning sensitive to the context of the Listed Building, an approach we discussed closely with Shropshire Council to ensure successful approval of both Planning and Listed Building Consent.
